The safety of groups during our residentials is our number one priority. In order to achieve the highest level of safety, we do the following:
-
Ormside Mill holds an Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) Licence for its outdoor activities.
-
Ormside Mill is a Lancashire County Council recognised activity and residential provider.
-
All staff working for Ormside Mill are suitably trained and qualified.
-
Ormside Mill assesses and manages the risk of adventurous activities, but cannot remove it. Groups will be included in this management and decision-making process to develop their understanding.
-
Ormside Mill understands that most accidents happen not during activities, but in non-programmed time. Ormside Mill staff work closely with visiting staff to ensure that young people are monitored and supervised as appropriate.
-
Ormside Mill has a formal incident reporting system, covering both accidents ‘near misses’. Incident reports are reviewed quarterly by the Board of Directors, where learning points are identified.
-
Ormside Mill works to comply with legal and best practice guidelines in relation to all areas of its operations (e.g. fire regulations, electrical and gas safety, food hygiene standards).
-
Ormside Mill works with leading youth organisations to ensure that it stays up-to-date with ‘safeguarding and child protection’ issues.
